Window hardware

Classical, country, industrial and modern window hardware

.

Aside from door hardware, window hardware is probably the most obvious part of interiorhardware. Yet from a construction or renovation standpoint, a standard model is still often used in construction so the windows do not match the chosen style of door hardware. Yet windows are looked at outside almost as often as doors. Window hardware such as tilt-and-turn window handles or window stays and hinges can be chosen in a matching style and color. And often there is window hardware in the same series or style as the rest of the hardware on our site. Worthwhile to also match the window hardware and choose a classic style window hardware, for example.

Window hardware components

.

Window hardware includes window latches, window stays, window handles and hinges. Authentic window hardware can be found for both old and new windows in every style. The window fittings can be found in various country, classic, modern and industrial styles, allowing the style of the door fittings, for example, to continue. This creates a consistent and balanced style throughout the interior. This style can be carried through on turn-tilt windows, tilt-turn windows, swing windows, double-turn windows and sliding windows.

Turn and tilt window handles

.

Today, many turn-tilt windows (or tilt and turn windows with turn and tilt positions) are used in new construction and renovation. And with tilt/turn windows, there is a window handle to choose from for many different door handles with the exact same handle. And replacing a turn-tilt window handle is basically the simplest as they are usually secured with two bolts at a standard distance and therefore can be replaced one on one without major modifications.

Sash fasteners and window stays

.

For classic and older windows, the window often turns to open outward. These windows are then usually secured with a window fastener (or sash bar) and possibly opened to different positions with a window opener (or expansion bar). For most classic and country styles, matching country and classic window stays and window locks can be found on the site. For window closures, however, it is important to consider the way they close: for older windows that are crooked or need to be pulled into a locking rubber, it is recommended that you choose a heavier window fastener. With older windows that close straight and do not close and stay closed with much force, the classic, smaller window fasteners can be used, which are often best suited to the style.

Espagnolettes and window handles

.

Window handles can be used on windows that are equipped with a window latch to pull them closed properly. In addition, they are also good to use on double-hung windows with an espagnolette. The window that closes both window parts can be fitted with an espagnolette. The other window can then be fitted with a window handle so that both can be pulled shut properly. Both window handles and espagnolettes can be found in a classic shape and country form.

Window handles, by the way, can also be used on old-fashioned sash windows. Although these are not used much anymore, they can still be found in older prewar homes (late nineteenth century and early twentieth century).

Hinges for windows

.

For tilt and turn windows, the hinge is already incorporated into the window. With classic turn-tilt windows, however, standard hinges are often traditionally used. If a window opens inward, then it is often less of an issue. But with windows that open outward, it is important to watch for possible rusting. If the hinge is on the outside (which is almost always the case if the window opens outward), then it can be painted along with the frame or a solid brass hinge can be chosen. Solid brass has the property of not rusting. Only periodic maintenance is then required to apply grease (or graphite) and possibly silicone to the pin and bearings. Grease has the advantage that it does not run out of the hinge quickly and keeps the hinge running smoothly longer.
