Exterior door handles
The door handles in bronze antique color, silver antique color and shiny chrome are made of solid brass and therefore cannot rust. This makes these door handles also suitable for outdoor use. The finish of the door handles can change with outdoor use: Chrome can become a little duller and bronze antique will become darker in color (this can be counteracted by polishing). The silver antique color can become a little more yellow over time. Black on brass cannot rust either, but the black color can darken and gray outside. This can be counteracted by using a hard wax that can be used outside.
In addition, the black door handles that are made of cast iron are finished with a black powder coating. In principle, these door handles can also be used outdoors, however, this depends on expectations. The door handles can rust in the places where they are not protected (anymore) by the powder coating. Even a small damage or a small unevenness in the coating can cause a larger spot to rust. So with a cast iron or iron stool, it is important to accept that the finish will be damaged and need to be reapplied or the change should not be seen as a problem. With a rural or classic look ast this rusting often does fit the picture: after all, for centuries they have been using iron products even outside where rusting is inevitable.
In addition, the black color can also become slightly duller over time. We therefore recommend choosing a brass door handle over a cast iron door handle for outside where you can find several models on the site with a black on brass finish. The black color on cast iron can also dull and gray outside. This graying and dulling can also be counteracted by using a hard wax that can be used outdoors.
For all stools used outdoors, we recommend sealing the screw hole with wax or treating it with silicone so that the screw is extra protected. Although the screws are treated, because of their hardness they are made of steel which can rust over time. And with a cast iron handle this is certainly important so that the screw thread in the handle is also protected.
